Nagorno Karabakh: Armenia, Azerbaijan Sign Declaration
Following much speculation before today’s talks in Moscow, AFP reports that the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan have signed a declaration on finding a peaceful solution to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. However, no other details are known just yet, and specifically on what happens next.
BARVIKHA, Russia (AFP) - The leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan on Sunday called for a “peaceful resolution” to their dispute over the province of Nagorny Karabakh on the basis of “binding international guarantees,” according to a joint declaration.
The two sides are ready to “continue their work to agree on a political settlement to the conflict over Nagorny Karabakh,” said the declaration, which was read at a signing ceremony outside Moscow by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev .
The two sides agreed that “the achievement of a peaceful settlement must be accompanied by legally binding international guarantees of all aspects and stages,” the declaration said.
