Just an FYI: I was reading Maureen Dowd's NYTimes column today, and glanced at the comments. Seems that all the "crazed ranters" out there have the same thesaurus at their disposal:

"Ms. Dowd has not idea how angry some of us are out here in the hinterland. If this woman should ever leave her sanctuary of NYC and go out into the rest of the nation, she might see the truth. Yes, we are angry and we are going to stay angry and we will never submit to her views or her propaganda or Obama or Hollywood or the leftists in the Democrat Party. Many of us out here are intelligent enough to see through Obama's lies and the lies of his minions. We despise this guy and his followers. If your new Messiah should enter the White House, we will still detest him and his instruments."

Sorry, I didn't mean to make light of these difficulties. The world sorely needs and sorely lacks reasoned debate. Almost nobody teaches logic anymore, or civility, and when leaders (take your pick of Bush, Putin, Kocharian, et al) prefer personal attacks and macho posturing to substance, everybody loses, except of course those with their hands in the till.

Ani, notoriety is not something I aspire to, and especially when both sides target me. This is very different from 2003 and 2004 when it was only Kocharian-supporters who attacked me with threats and defamatory comments against me being made on blogs and forums.

In fact, the election period this year was one of the most uncomfortable I have ever experienced, and the way in which journalists (and everybody else, for that matter) were expected to choose sides was not only regrettable, but also deeply depressing.

Still, I suppose it means that people noticed my work and felt it visible and threatening enough to attack. What is unfortunate is that rather than engage in counter arguments, the tendency here and in the Diaspora is to resort to personal attacks, including libel and slander.

I believe these people are based in California, where they can say anything they please--pretty ironic, of course.

But I guess this means that you're a celebrity now, right? :)

What's most ironic is some of Levon's supporters accused me at the same time of working for the KGB.

Hmmm, I must be a double-agent...

On a brighter note, I just found this which compiles and analyzes the writing of journalists, including myself:

Calculated Journalist Scores

Frequency of opinion markers: Low
Sentiment markers: Mostly Neutral

Opinion Indicators

We determine the opinion content by looking at a variety of language markers that might indicate the expression of the writer's opinion of events, as opposed to a more dry recitation of facts. Associated Press wire stories typically will score low, whereas opinion pieces, editorials, Op-Eds, and many blog posts will tend to score high.

Sentiment Indicators

Sentiment is determined by looking at specific words and language markers that indicate either a postive or negative judgement. The language markers are determined through extensive machine learning, to extract those that are most reliable.
