Eurovision: Deli — Mor ve Ötesi
As already mentioned, perhaps the best song in Saturday’s Eurovision Song Contest was Deli by Mor ve Ötesi. Sung in Turkish or not, rock really isn’t Eurovision material, but it was my favorite to the point I’ve been looking up the band on the Internet. Here’s what Wikipedia has to say about the band.
Mor ve Ötesi (Turkish: “Purple and beyond” or “Violet and Ultra”) is a Turkish alternative rock band hailing from the city of Istanbul, formed by frontman Harun Tekin. Its four current members are Harun Tekin, Kerem Kabaday?, Burak Güven and Kerem Özye?en. Former members include Alper Tekin(no relation to Harun) and Derin Esmer. They received major mainstream success after the release of the album “Dünya Yalan Söylüyor” (World is Lying). The band’s name is a play on “morötesi” which is the Turkish word for “ultraviolet”.

Their fifth album Büyük Dü?ler (Great Hopes) was released on May 8, 2006. This is an album mainly dealing with the political problems of Turkey and the personal problems of the group members, including loss of family members and their relationships. It has a darker sound compared to their previous albums. […]
