2008 Eurovision Song Contest Semi-Final Results
The first semi-final for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest held in Belgrade, Serbia, has just finished and as predicted, both Armenia and Azerbaijan made it through to the final. With geopolitics and international relations a factor in determining voting, it will be interesting to discover how countries in this region voted and not least because Armenia and Azerbaijan are still effectively in a state of war while Russia and Georgia always seem perilously close to being in one.
Of course, with the success of many former Eastern-bloc and former Soviet Republics, the controversy of what constitutes Europe and who should enter Eurovision continues. Incidentally, concerns still remain about Sirusho’s ability to sing live with the Daily Telegraph blog reporting that the “woman from Armenia was just shouting.” Regardless, here are the ten countries which passed tonight’s semi-final in the order they were announced.
Greece
Romania
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Finland
Russia
Israel
Azerbaijan
Armenia
Poland
Norway
