Global Voices Lebanon Crisis Coverage

With the BBC reporting that the Lebanese military is ready to use force to restore order, its no surprise that many ethnic Armenians from Lebanon resident in Armenia are understandably concerned by the current crisis back home. Therefore, anyone interested in what bloggers are saying about the latest violence in Lebanon might find Global Voices Online’s coverage useful.

Having teamed up with NewsTrust, the site features many roundups of what is being said in the blogosphere, including reactions from bloggers inside Lebanon. The latest entry translates an account by a Moroccan student in Beirut.

Manal, a female Moroccan blogger studying at the American University of Beirut, has been drawing lots of attention to her blog Carpe Diem with her on going account of the rising crisis in Lebanon. Manal fills her readers in with a mix of trepidation, hope and on-the-street commentary, offering what is perhaps a rare glimpse at a foreign -though Arab- “on the ground” perspective of what’s happening in Beirut.

Manal’s blog has been closely followed by the Moroccan blogosphere, including comments wishing for her safety, preventative emergency advice, encouragements to continue with her blogging and remarks regarding the deterioration of national cohesion in Lebanon due to sectarian fighting. Her daily chronicles attest to the sentiment that thousands within and beyond Lebanon’s borders seem to be holding their breath, waiting to see what will come next.
