Armenia: Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves

“Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves,” The Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin sang together, and in Blogian’s case this certainly seems to be the case. After overhearing one of her husband’s friends try to convince him to travel to Europe to “have fun with women,” the blogger’s sister ripped up his passport.

[…] While my sister had been reluctant about the trip, hearing the conversation she knew it was not going to happen. Her husband’s response? He laughed and, well, he is not going.

Although my sister never uses words like feminism or women’s rights, she resembles a not-so-much discussed traditional feminism that exists in some, but not most, Armenian families.
