Sksela — Now

Unzipped reports on what appears to be an offshoot of the Sksela youth movement. Faced with some internal criticism on its pro-radical opposition leanings, as well as unconfirmed reports that the organization will soon receive financing from diplomatic missions and funding bodies, the Now (Hima) movement has been established. It remains to be seen whether the distinction between the two groups is merely a formality or whether internal divisions over backing former president Levon Ter-Petrossian led to the split.

They aim to become the Armenian equivalent of youth movements Otpor - in former Yugoslavia; Kmara - in Georgia; Pora - in Ukraine, which were instrumental in bringing changes in their respective countries. They are pretty new as Hima movement, although as far as I understand developed from and affiliated with Sksela but with more distinctly political aims. So far they organised small but creative and vocal protest actions. Whether they will develop into ‘Pora’ or ‘Kmara’ remain to be seen.
