An Inauguration, Protest Demonstration & Balloons
The Armenian Patchwork posts photographs of yesterday’s opposition protest at the scene of where supporters of former president, Levon Ter-Petrossian, gathered following the 1 March dispersal of an overnight camp in Yerevan’s Liberty Square. The demonstration was timed to coincide with the inauguration of the new president, Serge Sargsyan, and also the 40th day since eight people tied in clashes with police.
While people lay flowers at the Myasnikyan monument, close to which the riots began, one could hear Jazz music coming from the Republic Square, where a balloon festival was going to happen later on. Although I did not try to get a pass to photograph the inauguration ceremony I was told yesterday that even those who were allowed were led to a room where they saw everything on TV.
