Yerevan Military Parade Confirmed

Unzipped confirms rumors that a military parade is planned for Yerevan on 9 April — the same day as president-elect Serge Sargsyan’s inauguration. The blog expresses some justified concerns with what can only be considered plans by the authorities to move the military into the capital and occupy Liberty Square in case of opposition protests.

Everything is wrong with this so called ‘military parade’. The idea is wrong, the place is wrong, the day is wrong. I am not discussing here the legitimacy of Serj Sargsyan presidency, let’s put that issue on side for a moment. But parade? Military parade? In Liberty sq? (which is completely inappropriate place for holding military parades under any circumstances). But come on, Armenian authorities. Do you really have much to celebrate after what you did on 1 March? I’d love to know who is the ‘beautiful mind’ behind that idea. Actually, that does not even matter now.
