Gegham Manukian: Ter-Petrossian Should Accept CC Decision
E-Channel has an interview with the Armenian Revolutionary Federation — Dashnaktsutyun’s Gegham Manukian who says that as former president Levon Ter-Petrossian justifies his disputed 1996 re-election on the basis of a ruling by the Constitutional Court at the time he should accept his defeat today. The international community has already stated that the opposition should accept the court’s ruling.
The way out is the same as in 1996. After all, Levon Ter-Petrossian talked about those elections, stating that the Constitutional Court had acknowledged the results of the elections in 1996, although the doubts about their legitimacy did not disappear. Levon Ter-Petrossian that justifies the results of the elections in 1996 by the decision of the Constitutional Court has no basis not to acknowledge today’s decision of the Constitutional Court. Yes, there have been violations, electoral bribes, and active participation of oligarchs in the course of the elections but, in this circumstance, there is the decision of the Constitutional Court, and international structures consider it essential that Levon Ter-Petrossian should accept that decision. After all of this, there is one way out – to go on with the political struggle, which happened in 1996, although this political pole has been formed among forces having different pasts, different presents, views and ideas, and it will hardly manage to survive for a long time.
