Protests to Continue
Unzipped reports that Levon Ter-Petrossian has vowed to continue his campaign of street protests once the state of emergency is lifted on 20 March. The former president and radical opposition leader has already applied to the Yerevan municipality requesting permission to hold a rally, but surprise, surprise, they turned the request down.
Levon Ter-Petrosyan re-asserted his previous claims that the opposition will resume protest actions against the ruling regime as soon as the ’state of emergency’ is lifted, since current authorities are lacking legitimacy.
In relation to continuous detentions and arrests of opposition figures and his supporters, Ter-Petrosyan says that the authorities cannot achieve anything with these repressive means: “The era of political prisoners is gone.”
According to Ter-Petrosyan, the authorities are nervous since they understand that they bear responsibility for blood on the streets of Yerevan.
