1 March Woman’s Day Demonstration
Unzipped reports that a demonstration was held today in Yerevan to mark International Woman’s Day by approximately 30 women relatives of some or all of the victims that died in last week’s clash between the opposition and authorities. There is no information on whether the female relatives of the policeman who died in the riot was present.
Today around 30 women, relatives of those killed in Yerevan, dressed in black, marched silently from Surb Sarkis church to Grigor Lusavorich st in downtown Yerevan where their beloved were killed during government crackdown on protesters on 1st March.
Relatives of those killed did not want to involve large crowd taking into account Armenia’s current tense situation, possibility of provocations, and that “one could expect everything from the authorities”.
They were holding white carnations. They tied black ribbons with white carnations around trees at the site of the tragedy.
