Armenia: Blogging Restricted

I’ve just received a phone call from The Armenian Observer informing me that a legal media expert has determined that blogging from Armenia falls under restrictions placed on the dissemination of information during the state of emergency period. This means that posts on the internal political situation in the country are now restricted.

As a result, apart from generic posts, this might mean that someone outside the country and not subject to the state of emergency will post occasional updates instead.

The same is true for my Global Voices Online commitments as it pertains to Armenia especially as the situation is made doubly worse by the fact that I am a foreign citizen resident in Armenia only with the permission of the authorities. My journalistic activities are also restricted by the state of emergency.

Therefore, apologies in advance to regular readers of this blog. Incidentally, as blogs are monitored I respectfully request that readers avoid making any comments intended to promote unrest, conflict or hate. Please also abide by standard blogging etiquette and treat each other with respect even if you disagree.

Just in case, and to prevent comments from getting politically charged or overly emotional, all comments are now on moderation. Thank you.
