Aram Karapetian Detained

LTP Rally 079A1 Plus reports that outspoken opposition party leader Aram Karapetian has been detained in another swoop by masked security agents in Yerevan. Although Karapetian has been accused of collaborating with the prime minister, Serge Sargsyan, in the past, since the second round of the last presidential election held in 2003 he has been considered part of the radical opposition and more recently, a supporter of former president Levon Ter-Petrossian.

It can only considered that the end game following last week’s presidential election is now upon us although it remains to be seen who will emerge with the upper hand. Many of us fear that the ultimate outcome will be determined through clashes between protesters and the authorities.

New Times Party (NZhK) Leader Aram Karapetian was kidnapped at 3.30 local time, on February 24.

According to eye-witnesses, masked men came up to the NZhK Leader in Erebuni Street, pinioned his arms and took him in an unknown direction.

Supposedly, he was taken to the 6th department.

The masked kidnappers had batoned Aram Karapetian’s bodyguards, the pre-election office for Levon Ter-Petrossian reports.

To note, today “Heritage” Party members visited the 6th department to make inquiries about Smbat Aivazian and Aram Karapetian. The department concealed their whereabouts saying they were unaware of the kidnapped figures.
