Armenia opposition protests again over vote

YEREVAN (Reuters) - Thousands of opposition supporters gathered in Armenia’s capital for a second day on Thursday and said they would not leave until the victory of Prime Minister Serzh Sarksyan in a presidential election is overturned.

Reuters reporters at the protest on Freedom Square, outside Yerevan’s opera house, said between 15,000 and 20,000 demonstrators had gathered on Thursday — roughly the same number that protested the day before.

“Our protest will be permanent,” said Nikol Pashinyan, a senior aide to Ter-Petrosyan. “We demand that the Central Election Commission declare the election invalid and call a new election,” he said.

Authorities have not given permission for the protest but police kept a low-key presence and did not try to intervene.

However, it also says that many of those in attendance are unhappy with Bisharyan's statement about Baghdasarian's vote increasing. <blockquote>The square is full. Country of Legality party (CofL) presidential candidate Arthur Baghdasaryan’s headquarters’ head, CofL deputy chair Heghine Bisharyan, has made a speech at the gathering. She has read the complete statement distributed by CofL the day before, about the expectations to annul the elections at 100 polling stations and conduct re-calculations at 200 polling stations. The participants of the meeting have expressed discontent with Heghine Bisharyan’s statement where she has said, “I think, as a result of re-calculations, our candidate’s votes will significantly increase.” CofL deputy chairman has responded to the discontent, “People, we are waiting for the results of re-calculations.
