A1 Plus Reports Metro Closed
A1 Plus reports that Yerevan’s Metro has been closed and implies that it has been difficult to travel to the location of presidential Levon Ter-Petrossian’s post-election protest demonstration all day.
Today the trains of Yerevan metro do not stop at “Yeritasardakan” and “Baghramyan” stops. Alongside with this, transport means have almost disappeared in the city.
“I have hardly got a taxi to come to work”, complained Shushan. “We are not hostages. We are deprived of our constitutional right to move freely”.
Today in Yerevan streets you can meet many policemen in groups. A group of policemen entered the metro station “Hanrapetutyan Hraparak” at 15.40 p.m. and moved to the place of the rally. We asked of the policemen why they had gathered in the streets and he responded: “A rally is being held now and we are waiting for further orders”.
However, it should be pointed out that at 3pm this afternoon I traveled by metro to Yeritasardakan, the closest station by the CEC and Matenadaran, and at 4.50pm by metro from the Hanrapetutyan Hraparak station to the end of the line in Komitas. The metro stopped at the Yeritasardakan and Marshall Baghramyan stations.
I’m not sure what the situation was like before 3pm or after 5pm, but at those times, everything was running normally. However, there did appear to be fewer buses operating from Republic Square which is why I took the metro after the OSCE/ODIHR press conference.
