Ter-Petrossian Gaining Support?
RFE/RL reports that presidential candidate Artur Baghdasarian has not ruled out supporting his rival Levon Ter-Petrossian. However, such a move would likely confuse voters given that even with such a development before next week’s vote, Baghdasarian’s name would still be on the ballot paper.
The same article also reports that a union of war veterans, Test of Spirit, will definitely be supporting Ter-Petrossian. The announcement should come as no surprise as it split away from Yerkrapah in opposition to the organization’s support for the incumbent and outgoing president, Robert Kocharian.
The organization was formed by a leading opposition figure, Albert Bazeyan, in 2005. The name comes from a book written by the late defense and prime minister, Vazgen Sargsyan, and comprises those associated with the slain official.
