Levon Ter-Petrossian Seeks Moscow’s Support?
ArmInfo says that unconfirmed reports indicate that former president Levon Ter-Petrossian and his campaign manager, former foreign minister Alexander Arzumanian, have visited Moscow. If true, the reports apparently published in the Russian press are very significant given Ter-Petrossian’s pro-Western leanings and the control Moscow has over the political and economic processes in the country. Ter-Petrossian’s spokesperson, Arman Musinyan, has refused to comment on the reports of yesterday’s visit.
ArmInfo. Press Secretary of the presidential candidate, ex-president Levon Ter- Petrosyan Central Campaign Headquarters Arman Musinyan refused to comment to ArmInfo on Monday visit of the candidate to Moscow. Relevant information occurred in Russia Media, today.
There is no official information confirming the visit so far. Whereas, Regnum reports that Head of the ex- president’s campaign headquarter, the former foreign minister Aleksander Arzumanyan accompanies the candidate to Moscow.
The visit would be especially interesting given that in November, Arzumanian explicitly stated that Ter-Petrossian has no intention of following what his campaign team considered to be the “Moscow-Washington-Paris” route to drum up external support for his bid to return to power. “[I]t is [up to] the Armenian citizens to elect [their] president,” Arzumanian was quoted by Regnum as saying. Maybe things have changed in lieu of anticipated Western backing for his presidential bid?
