Who Woke Up Levon Ter-Petrossian?

Archuk’s blog says that the return of Levon Ter-Petrossian to the political scene in Armenia for the 19 February presidential election is part of some external plan to normalize and stabilize the South Caucasus. The blogger asks “Who woke up Levon Ter-Petrossian?”

First attempt was succesfully neutralized by Russians with the overthrow of the LTP regime in 1998. This will be the second attempt to normalize and stabilize this strategically important region and the current regime in Yerevan with its ‘complimentarism’ is no good for that purpose, hence the the reapperance of ‘constructive’ LTP. Something rather spicy is being cooked up.

The region could be in proccess of being prepared for a massive makeover that will include normalization of Armenian-Turkish relationships, a push towards Turkey’s EU membership, solution of Nagorno-Karabakh question, regime change in Iran(maybe a bit later) and other minor questions as well. The Turkish-Armenian reconciliation takes the prime stage in this proccess and noone else from the Armenian side has got a better potential to make things work with Turkey than LTP.

In regards to Armenia’s interior life, I hope the regime change will not mean a comeback of everyone who lost favour with the current regime in its time. I’m referring to all the small, medium and especially big size chinovniks, military commanders, interior affair and security officers as well as businessmen who were made redundant for some reason and waited for the payback which they think LTP’s arrival as a new president is.
