Political Eviction

E-Channel reports that presidential candidate Levon Ter-Petrossian’s campaign headquarters in the southern city of Kapan has been effectively closed down. Despite paying in advance for rental of the property housing the headquarters, Ter-Petrossian’s Siunik region was evicted by police.

They have claimed that the rental agreement has been made with the husband, Lyova Antonyan, whereas his wife, Manushak Antonyan – a co-owner of the space, does not agree.

According to her, while leasing the space, they were not aware that elections headquarters would be located there. The owners were even ready to return the received amount.

The employees of the headquarters claimed that, according to the RA civil code, a verbal agreement was also a form of a contract, demanding a court decision or another document from the police, based on which they were obligated to free the space.

Although the owners agreed to allot a 2-day time to the headquarters to find a new location, the police violently forced the employees out of the headquarters after a two-hour debate. At this moment they are looking for a tent to locate it in the town square and to continue the works there…
