Levon Ter-Petrossian Campaign: Clashes Possible

Despite yesterday breaking the Law on Conducting Meetings, Assemblies, Rallies and Demonstrations by holding an unsanctioned march in central Yerevan — a move which some observers believe was designed to provoke a clash — A1 Plus reports that the radical opposition believe that clashes are possible.

Paradoxically, especially considering the violation of the law in downtown Yerevan yesterday, Karen Karapetian, press secretary of Pan-Armenian National Movement (HHSh), says that Ter-Petrossian works in compliance with legislation and the constitution rather than against it.

“Power overthrow is inevitable in the Republic of Armenia in 2008,” Karen Karapetian, the press secretary of the Pan-Armenian National Movement (HHSh) and head of the party’s youth wing, said to A1+.

Asked whether they might come into collision with the Government’s candidate, the HHSh press secretary said, “Our campaign is compliant with the provisions set by the Armenian Constitution and laws. The acting authorities are constantly breaking the country’s laws. In case they provoke clashes they will be “backfired” by the force of the law,” he concluded.
