Presidential Election: First or Second Round Victory?
E-Channel quotes a senior member of the governing Republican party as saying that the prime minister, Serge Sargsyan, will win in the first round of next month’s presidential election in Armenia. Karen Karapetyan believes that such an outcome is inevitable given the opposition’s failure to unite behind a common candidate.
Another presidential candidate, Vazgen Manukyan, disagrees and says for the first time ever, society and political groups are already asking who they should support in a second round. However, the veteran opposition politician once again warns the danger is that the 19 February presidential election in Armenia will turn out to be a choice between the “lesser of two evils.”
