Onnik, It's true that you can easily remove all the information from EXIF, but never the less it's some sort of safeguard for the possible problems in today's polarized environment.

BTW: Copyright is a serious issue for bloggers and others to be aware of. In part, this is probably why Creative Commons has come about. That is, if images are going to be used on blogs and non-commercial sites (professional sites are always going to observe copyright) let's at least state how they may be used freely.

Indeed, there are even some sites that allow you to search the Internet for images that are licensed under Creative Commons. Go to SpinXpress and select "Any CC License" after your initial search.

Tigran, copyright is implied and effective as soon as an image is taken. Also, you can easily get rid of copyright notices stuck in EXIF data. Anyway, I've set up my camera to automatically stick that in when an image is taken, but I don't suppose it will make much difference. I mean, the images have been taken from sites where both the copyright notice and the creative commons license stipulating the terms for free non-commercial use are given.

Have you ever thought about embedding some sort of copy rights statement in the images?

Maybe this article would help you:

Incidentally, I should point out that the image of the clenched fists were first used on the Levon Ter-Petrossian official campaign site without permission. When I contacted them to inform they were breaching copyright I was told that someone had said I had agree to its use and been paid which was not true.

They offered me $100 for the image and rather than fight to have the image removed I accepted. However, I didn't know that the image would be used for other materials as well although at the same time, I didn't specify that it couldn't. Anyway, while the first use of the image infringed my copyright, subsequent use did not.
