About This Blog
Although the official pre-election campaign period for the next month’s presidential election in Armenia does not start until Monday, unofficially it started months ago and has picked up in intensity in the past two weeks. On the eve of Monday’s official start, the Armenia Election Monitor 2008 is now fully up and running to cover events as they occur.
This site will also include news, analysis and commentary in addition to summaries and links to media coverage of the election as well as discussion and debate in the Armenian blogosphere. Although only available in English, this blog will also feature original photography and be frequently updated on a daily basis or as of when major events happen.
The site is non-partisan and is not financed by any political, local or international organization. It exists purely to contribute to affording the 19 February 2008 vote maximum transparency and to engage readers in informed discussion. The site will also take priority over the general Oneworld Multimedia blog.
In the coming weeks, the Armenia Election Monitor 2008 will also cooperate with Internews Armenia’s E-Channel on a voluntary, non-commercial basis. This will involve the sharing of information and the cross-posting or use of text and photographic materials.
Other materials relating to blogs by myself and The Armenian Observer will also be available via Global Voices Online. I hope you’ll all regularly access the site and when appropriate, participate in comments discussing many issues relating to the process of democratization in the Republic of Armenia.
Thanks for reading.
