Well, that's a very good point and something that one would expect him to do. Perhaps you're right. If he doesn't then he will not be treated any different from before. However, I don't have expectations of a more political understanding from the electorate here. Instead I think it will boil down to whether people like him more than Serzh or not.

As for his comeback being planned, well, I said to people at the time of the parliamentary election that the emergence of groups such as Impeachment were to set the scene for this. I also suspect that some groups in civil society are now becoming active for the same reason.

However, I could never have anticipated the momentum or activity that we have now. Still, all of this remains speculation until we know for sure. That is, on 26 October at Liberty Square.

I will lose my already enfeebled faith in humanity, if people (apart from Ter-Petrossian’s supporters and brown-nosers and their relatives) will show up at the October 26 rally. I still believe that, however apathetic the people in Armenia are nowadays, they will not forgive him for these crimes and he will be unable to stir up the masses against the ruling regime that they in turn despise. LTP could have gathered much larger crowds had he sounded remorseful and repentant for the crimes he had committed against his own people when he re-appeared last month.

I am convinced that his “sudden” re-appearance and current political activity has been advised by his secretive external patrons not so much to attempt to re-install himself to the throne, but to shake up the whole political establishment for another key player yet to emerge on the horizon. As Franklin Delano Roosevelt, a former U.S. president, once said: “In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way.”
